The writing therapist is in
Are you stuck on a project? In need of career advice? Want to understand a particular aspect of craft, (say, how picture books work, how to organize your nonfiction, or what makes middle grade tick?)
You will benefit from novel therapy, one-on-one time with me where I focus on exactly what you need to get to the next step of your projects and the next stage of your career. I’ve been teaching for more than fifteen years, and I’d love nothing more than sharing what I’ve learned over the course of my 25-book career.
Each session block is 50 minutes, but it’s pretty common for us to take a whole hour.
Book a session today—and if you like it, blocks of sessions come at a discounted price.
Novel Critique Service
I’ve published four novels for young readers with a fifth on the way: comedy, historical romance, fantasy, mystery, and the forthcoming adventure story. My books have won multiple state book awards, the Sid Fleischmann Award for humor, and been finalists for the Kirkus Prize.
I’ve also written five long works of nonfiction: two biographies and three informational works.
I taught for seven years at Vermont College of Fine Arts in their Writing for Children and Young Adults MFA program. All of this has left me well equipped to help you get your novel or work of nonfiction in the best possible shape—which is what you need to do in this incredibly competitive market.
There are no guarantees of publishing. But I can promise that you will learn more about yourself, your writing, and the work of crafting superb books for young readers.
Let’s say you have a draft of your novel. You’ve shared it with your critique group or beta readers. You’ve made it as good as it can possibly be. But you want another set of eyes on the pages. That’s what I can do for you.
I will read your novel, offer line edits and suggestions where appropriate, analyze your pacing (with a supplemental report on this and other elements), and write you an editorial letter much like you’d get from an industry pro, pointing out the strengths of your work, underscoring the vision you’ve put on the page, and outlining questions and next steps you might take.
I’m thorough, experienced, and am confident I can help make your work sing the way you want it to.
Cost: $1,200 + .02 per word. I have room for a limited number of these, so please contact me if you’re interested in getting on my schedule.
